News from the Past

I was scanning some photos and effects of my Grandfather Trevor Goodwin today and in amongst the Cadet books, and drivers licenses, and school reports  I found a bit of news.

Really important news this was too and well worth keeping. You see my Grandfather was a signalman on a Patrol boat in the Pacific in World War 2.

And clearly felt these pieces of news he obviously relayed onwards were worth keeping'. ( I think he was right!!)

  2. Wow indeed .... this is amazing and very close to my heart. My grandfather was a Japanese POW so for my dad, VE day was great but it didn't bring his father home to him. This announcement however did and is much more important in our families life. It still took him 6 month of recuperation in NZ before the British Gov would let him home again. The boys were so emaciated they decided to wait before sending them home.

  3. My grandfather didn't come home then either..he had contacted tuberculosis while at sea in the Pacific.so he spent a long time in a sanatorium before he was allowed to come home to his family .he was finally discharged in 1952!!
